The Incubation Approximation

A few weeks ago some other foreigners in town purchased our Thanksgiving dinner. We are in the process of fattening them up. We have one Tom and two hens. Since the purchase we have been getting lots of eggs from the hens. There is plenty of time between now and Thanksgiving for the hens to hatch their eggs, but they refuse to sit.

I had a couple of days this week that were less busy than usual, a drawer of spare parts,a role of duct tape, and seven dollars to spare so there was no choice but to build an incubator.

Here is a parts list if you feel the need to build your own.
- One sheet of styrofoam about 2 feet too long to fit into a taxi. $4
- One left over thermostat from another project. Free
- One roll of duct tape imported from the U.S. in a package. Free
- One package of toothpicks. $.50
- Four meters of wire, two light bulbs and fixtures. $1.50
- One thermometer / hygrometer. $1.30
- One bowl. $.70
- One metal cd case. Free
- One glass pan lid that once was the lid for my pan that is now my grill. Free

I have been testing it for the past day and a half and it is working perfectly. I will build a platform for the eggs and an egg turner out of bamboo today or tomorrow. The bamboo will be free too.

If I can get some eggs going in the next few days our Thanksgiving meal may just provide our Christmas dinner too.

? of the day for an incubator MacGyver would be proud of,what is the most clever thing you have ever done with duct tape, paper clips and a swiss army knife?

Already planning your Thanksgiving Meal? You are ahead of me...is this why you wanted the pumpkin pie rec.? Good luck on your hatching, but could you really eat your pets? MOM

Ah Heath, you are top of the pile for use of duct tape of any kind. You should be writing a humorous book on your experiences with duct tape. Congratulations. Nancy

I remember making an incubator with you in class! It proudly hatched 2 chicks from my one try at home! :)
